What I Wear in the DC Heat

The nation's capital is hot and humid today... Thank god for the air conditioning. Lately the temperature has been going up non-stop. Yesterday it hit 105 in the shade... I was inside all day, not wanting to go into sauna*. I don't put special treatments in my hair and my skin doesn't burn, so the sun is not really a big problem. As hot as it is out, I decided to go out for a coffee today. I am a regular at this very cute coffee shop in the middle of the busy Dupont Circle area in Washington DC. It is forever busy... people coming in and out, but not many actually stay and have their drinks (I'm guessing it is because the coffee shop has no wi-fi). I go there for my ME time. (ME time involves coffee and book). They make my latte incredibly good, and when I have that first sip I forget all my troubles. During my me time, I don't answer phone calls, and spend the time reading a book while drinking coffee... If you see me reading in a coffee shop on a sunday, don't even think about approaching me. I'm always preoccupied with my thoughts during this precious few minutes (sometimes an hour). Since I'm always busy with school and work, I seldom have this ME time. I read books on the run nowadays, which is not recommended. I woke up today and decided to go out for a coffee... I knew it was hot, so I decided to wear something
light... Here's what i came up with: dark grey (almost looks navy blue in these pictures) tight tank top, tutu skirt with ballet flats. This particular outfit seemed not-too-over-the-top for my coffee shop, but still dressy. The tank top has a sparkly trimming that gives the plain tank top the extra-umph... I've always loved tutu skirts, and looked for one for years until i found this one. The fact that it doesn't have the big poof* that looks ridiculous is the key (think of the Sex and the City show's intro where Carrie - wearing pink tutu - goes around the city to look at her picture on the bus... that's a perfect tutu because one can actually wear it without looking like a maniac). Ballet flats have been my staple shoes for years. People used to look at me weird before it got big, but i wore it nonetheless. It is very comfortable (if you find the one that fits you perfectly) and makes any shabby ensemble look chic (i constantly wear my flats with ripped jeans foe example)... As for accessories, i chose statement pieces. Sparkly drop earrings with pearl-stud necklace that I adore very much. I wear my watch no matter what... I would love to go around taking pictures of fashionistas around DC area (there are many of them believe me), but they just happen to be very secretive about themselves around here (unlike NYC where they pose and be part of the campaign willingly)... So readers, this is what i wore today, feel free to send me pictures of your sunday outfits! :)
